Summary
I've always had a passion for maths. From high school onwards, I had to choose what I wanted to do, and it was very hard. I did a preparatory course in MPSI and then MP* at St Louis, and was admitted to Centrale, which appealed to me because of its generalist nature, as you can do a lot of things after this course.
Maria is a trainee in WEEM's Operations Department. Here she tells us about her experience. We're always looking for interns to join us. If you're interested, don't hesitate to apply at !
Can you tell me about your background?
I've always had a passion for maths. From high school onwards, I had to choose what I wanted to do, and it was very hard. I did a preparatory course in MPSI and then MP* at St Louis.
I was admitted to Centrale, which appealed to me because of its generalist nature, and you can do a lot of things after this course. For two years, I took a lot of different options to discover new subjects.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I decided to take a gap year to put things into practice and clarify my career plan.
For my first part of my gap year, I wanted to work in a start-up. In a big group, I was afraid of being swamped, not learning much and not seeing the impact of my work.
In a start-up, whatever you do has an impact.
What I like about WEEM is the fact that I'm trusted, that I'm listened to, and that I see the impact of my work on the company.
You have the right to take initiatives based on what you like and who you are. That's what I expected from a start-up, and at WEEM, I wasn't disappointed.
I can also see the impact that has remained from the work of previous trainees: AI projects, the implementation of Power BI... Everyone has set up new projects that are used in the company today.
I've been trained in these tools and now I know how to use them.
It opens up a lot of possibilities and I learn a lot about technical subjects.
What's your internship at WEEM like?
No two days are the same, we work on several projects and what I do varies over time. I don't have a routine.
I've developed and launched a no-code application on Bubble, which is part of WEEM's internationalization strategy.
I also created dashboards on Power BI to manage the work of the teams.
In the Operations department, we have to recognize the pebbles in the shoe of other teams and find solutions to solve these problems and implement them. We start with an observation, identify areas for improvement, measure the impact of the problem and propose a solution.
WEEM is a small team, and everyone gets on well together. You have responsibilities and the atmosphere is friendly. I know all the people I work with, I have lunch with the co-founders, it's intense and fast-paced.
