CSRD: The new directive that will change corporate reporting

What is the CSRD?
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a new directive issued by the European Union with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050. It aims to harmonize extra-financial reporting by companies in Europe, by improving the availability and quality of data made public.

Are you concerned by the CSRD?
Eventually, some 50,000 companies in Europe will have to comply with this new directive.
You are concerned if you are:
- A large company with more than 250 employees, exceeding at least two of the following criteria: 25 million euros in balance sheet or 50 million euros in sales.
- An SME listed on the stock exchange or a non-European company with annual sales of more than 150 million euros on the European Union market.

When will the CSRD be applied?
It will be phased in from January 1, 2024.

What are the benefits of the CSRD?
In practical terms, the CSRD strengthens the place of sustainable development issues in corporate strategy, governance and risk management, and thus the responsibility of management bodies vis-à-vis a very broad public, with very diverse needs and expectations.

In concrete terms, it enables :

- More trust between stakeholders (companies, customers, investors, etc.)
- Democratized and simplified extra-financial reporting
- A further step towards sustainable finance
